Test Praetorian Model Finished

So I finished the test guy off (well as much as I am prepared to do, I'm not very good at highlights so haven't really done any). Thanks for recommending adding some green, have given him Dark Angel cuffs, edges and collar and think it really makes a difference, so this will definitely be the colour scheme for the army. Didn't have any bestial brown to undercoat the helmet but painted it bleach bone and really like the colour especially how it complements the now dusty, African plain esque, base.

Any further thoughts on improvement? I was contemplating painting the belt green as well but keeping the straps white, but quite like it as it is now. I wouldn't be ashamed if the rest look like this (with some pouches etc. added, and I'm thinking a helmet badge as they look so good on other peoples conversions).

All I need now is for Victoria Lambs Victorian legs to become available so I can put a big order in! In the mean time I have 2 squads of Penal Legion that should be arriving soon to do, I have a test Paratrooper in the works I just need a head for, some tank conversions and a Commander model I'm too scared to touch yet! So plenty to get on with while I wait. Wife's away at the weekend so might have something new to post up soon, Aussie to UK postal service dependant.

  1. Looks fantastic! Very impressed. There is a lot to like about the miniature. Bleached bone helmet is perfect and works with the base. The dark green is a good choice for the cuffs and collar. Leave the belts and and pouches, bags etc white. I think it would be a mistake to add any more colours.
You say you havent done any highlights but I think the wash has done a good job so not a problem.

  3. yeah this is great, as you said how could you not be happy with a whole army like this chap! Again I like the dark green but I wouldn't add any more. How about a very light wash on the helmet just in the 4 vertical groves and around the band. I would use Gryphonne sepia or Delvan mud, and just run a very small bit into those lines. That's a very nice looking base too. As a whole it works really well. Nice one.

  4. Gents thanks very much for the positive feedback, I'm quite pleased with him as my first model back in over 10 years! Can't wait to paint a whole squad like him, it's just unfortunate that that doesn't look like being until sometime next month now when the legs I want come out. I'll try a little wash on the helmet thanks. I'm quite proud of the base, never done a sand painted one before and it turned out better than I thought! I thought I'd bought the wrong grass but it actually complements the ground really well, like I had originally hoped, for that sort of dry scrubland look. I'm really happy with the colour scheme now so once again thank you for your help, adding the green and changing the helmet has made a huge difference.

  6. Yea I think your right after seeing the message on her store facebook page. Definitely yes! Probably not as the Command HQ, as although I think he looks ace he doesn't look quite fancy enough, but at the mo the intention is for him to be my 1st Platoon Commander. Will you be getting him?

  7. I think I will have too! I mean he look so sweet. and I agree he looks like a good platoon commander rather than command HQ. Possibly one of the special (named) ones.
